MLO 6 Research and Technology
MLO 6 Research and Technology:
6.1 Students gain knowledge of appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply them in their studies.
6.2 Students use appropriate technology in research studies relative to Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures.
6.3 Students collect, manage, and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce their scholarly work.
I met MLO 6 of Research and Technology by taking the following courses; WLC 300, SPAN 300 and WLC 400. Each class was fundamental to the expansion of my research and technological capabilities. In each course, I learned how to better research to find quality sources and material. In both Span 300 and WLC 400 we spent the majority of our time working on the computers at CSUMB to enhance our research studies.
During WLC 300, we had a whole class with the CSUMB research librarian. During her time, I learned how to look for specific sources that would satisfy the requisite of being a scholarly secondary source.
In Span 300, we had to find sources to write our Capstone paper on. I found many sources, and use all but three of them on my actual paper. While this was tedious to do, and at times frustrating as we were picking sources for a paper we hadn't yet started, it was well worth it. Having most of the sources before beginning the paper made the writing go much faster. Also, by having the sources cited in MLA already, we only needed to copy and paste our citation, instead of worrying about the correctness of the format.
In WLC 400, MLA format was drilled into my head as my Capstone was based on Literature. I am thankful for the material I was given on MLA formatting as it was clear and therefore easy to interpret.

During WLC 300, we had a whole class with the CSUMB research librarian. During her time, I learned how to look for specific sources that would satisfy the requisite of being a scholarly secondary source. Her explanation of how to use CSUMB's online article and database made it easier for me to research academic articles. One other class where this was useful was in Span 304, when we were asked to research particular movements and then write an essay.
In Span 300, we had to find sources to write our Capstone paper on. I found many sources, and used all but three of them on my actual paper. When it came time to find new articles to meet the requirement the prior practice made the task much easier. We also performed presentations in each of the three classes mentioned above. All of my presentations were done with google slides. I learned so much about what is important to have in a presentation. I also was able to present the material that I had researched.
Lastly, this website is a great example for the technological advances I made throughout my time at CSUMB. In the beginning, I felt overwhelmed at the thought of accomplishing all of the requirements for this e-portfolio as I was not the best with technology. I now feel confident in my capabilities with both research and technology.
