WLC 300-WLC Major Proseminar
Course Description
This course introduces students to the Japanese Language and Culture, or Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs, including literature, culture and linguistics, and to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, such as graduate education and teaching credential preparation. (Prereq: Junior or Senior Standing)
Course Narrative
In this class we previewed many different topics to prepare for Capstone. Some of the topics we covered during this class included, Literature, Study Abroad, and possible graduate school opportunities. Furthermore, we had many guest speakers with a major in WLC who gave us insight on their careers. For example, a staff member of the Teaching Credential Program at CSUMB spoke to us about the requirements for acceptance into the program and about the program itself. Furthermore, a student who had participated in study abroad in Japan, gave us a presentation. Then a member of our department discussed our options to either participate in study abroad or complete the other pathways for the Culture Immersion Requirement. Students who have graduated from the Spanish or Language major also spoke to us about their career choices. They informed us on how their career related to the major and what they did in their jobs. In this class we also received help with our resumes. We had a whole class dedicated to making a professional resume. By the end of that class, I felt confident in my resume being professional and reflecting my achievements well. Furthermore, we had help designing our two-year plan's to graduate on time. Dr. Christine Fernández personally worked with me on the Individual Learning Plan or ILP, to be able to take the classes during appropriate semesters to ensure I graduated on time. Meet MLO 6 of Research and Technology.
Below is my personal two-year plan. The planning allowed me to balance school and a full time job.
